Marquette, MI – November 8, 2018 – We’re just over two weeks away from the annual Marquette Township “Catch the Christmas Spirit” Tree Lighting Ceremony which means it is time to pick a tree!
Provided by The Wiegand family, residents of Marquette Township, this years tree was 60 feet tall and 26 inches wide with 58 rings! Great Lakes Radio’s Luke, Joe, and Todd worked hard today cutting down the tree and trimming 22 feet off the base!
Then they put thousands of lights on the tree and a beautiful big start on the top to get it ready for the tree lighting ceremony. You can join the holiday season fun in the Appleebee’s parking lot and Westwood Mall on Tuesday, November 27th to witness Santa turn on the lights!
There will be Christmas music on the big stage from “the Gift 106.1fm” before Northern Lights A Cappella Group and Negaunee Male Chorus lead us in some traditional seasonal carols. Around 6:30pm Santa is set to arrive on a township firetruck to light up Christmas!
Following the tree lighting, you can bring the kids into the mall to get a picture with Santa until 8pm. There will also be free cookies and juice from Super One Foods, free coffee and hot chocolate from BIGGBY Coffee and free popcorn from Honor Credit Union. Super One Foods will also have hot dogs and brats available for purchase throughout the evening.
You’ll also want to stick around for the New Attitudes Dance Studio performance in the mall plus enjoy carolers from the musical, “Elf Jr.” and a solo performance from Mr. U.P., Robert Kemp.
The Sheriff’s department will be on stand by watching out for the Grinch and Sunny.FM 101.9 will be broadcasting live from the ceremony with continuous updates.
Merry Christmas and Let’s Catch the Christmas Spirit! See you there.
Special thanks to Barb and Dave Wiegand, Applebee’s, Westwood Mall, Super One Foods, BIGGBY Coffee, Honor Credit, the Marquette Township Fire Department, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department, the Gift 106.1fm and Sunny.FM 101.9!
