Marquette Township, Michigan – December 1, 2014 – Catch the annual Christmas Spirit Tree Lighting Ceremony tomorrow night. Santa’s coming to Marquette Township to throw the big switch and light the Township Christmas Tree.
This year, the Marquette Township Christmas Tree is extra special. The 30-foot Blue Spruce was planted more than 20 years ago by Vietnam Veteran Ken Ceckiewicz. It is the first tree ever donated to the township by a township resident.
Santa will light the official Marquette Township Christmas Tree tomorrow night at the tree lighting ceremony that kicks off at 6pm. The Blue Spruce is on display now in front of the Westwood Mall near the mall sign and this morning, tree was adorned with lights and a brand new star made by Luke Noordyk.
Township Supervisor Dennis Liimatta said the Grinch has been sighted around Marquette Township again, but we don’t need to worry because the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department will have deputies on hand tomorrow night to keep the township tree lighting ceremony safe.
Come on down to Marquette Township tomorrow and enjoy Christmas Carols sung by the Marquette Redmen Chorale, tractor-drawn hayrides, cookies and juice, and even pictures with Santa Claus himself inside the Westwood Mall. The festivities start at 6 pm in the mall parking lot by Applebee’s.
