Marquette, MI – December 7, 2016 – Despite the brutal wind, it was a great evening at Westwood Mall as we enjoyed the Marquette Township Catch the Christmas Spirit Tree Lighting Ceremony of 2016, brought to you in part by the Marquette Township Business Association.
The mall parking lot was packed with families as Todd and Naomi Noordyk welcomed everyone to the event. The duo and their accompanist lead the crowd in classic Christmas hits.
We were happy to see a strong turn out this evening as everyone came out to see the tree and of course, Santa. Before Santa arrived we had a nasty visitor though! The Grinch showed his face in the crowd tonight and even made his way onto the stage to try and steal Christmas! Thankfully the Marquette County Sheriffs Department was around to catch that Grinch before he got on with his awful plan! They tied the Grinch up and took him away, just in time for Santa to arrive.
There was no Rudolph this time, but Marquette Fire Department was kind enough to bring Santa right into the Westwood Mall parking lot for us! Making his way through the crowd, Santa wished everyone a “Merry Christmas” and asked kids what they hoped to get for Christmas this year. Santa then made his way to the Great Lakes Radio stage to give us the big tree lighting count down. With 20 seconds on the clock, everyone in the crowd joined in for the count down… “20, 19, 18 …”
Without a moment’s hesitation the lights flickered on and the colors looked amazing! They sure picked a nice tree for this year’s Catch the Christmas Spirit Tree Lighting Ceremony.
After the tree was lit, Santa invited everyone into the Westwood Mall for refreshments from Honor Credit Union, BIGGBY COFFEE, and the MTBA. Everyone rushed in for popcorn, cookies and something warm to drink before lining up to their a picture with Jolly Ol’ St. Nick.
All and all, it was another successful Catch the Vision Township Event brought to you by the MTBA and many other sponsors! Thanks to all of the parties that made this evening possible, Great Lakes Radio, Honor Credit Union, BIGGBY COFFEE, Westwood Mall, Super One Foods, and of course, everyone from the Marquette Township Business Association.
