Santa Claus  lights the Township Christmas Tree

Marquette TownshipDecember 4, 2013 – Everyone caught the Christmas Spirit last night at the Marquette Township Tree Lighting Celebration.
Families from all over the area came to take part in the festivities and the event was really fantastic! The crowd was huge, and even though the Grinch was spotted several times sneaking around, everyone was having a lot of fun.
When the Redmen Chorale sang “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch,” that sneaky old Grinch ran right up on stage to direct them!

The Sheriff’s Department caught the Grinch!

The joke was on the Grinch, though, since Marquette County Sheriff’s Deputies were in the crowd just waiting for him to make his move. They arrested the Grinch and hauled him away before he could ruin Christmas!
The kids loved seeing The Grinch prowling around Applebee’s and getting arrested, but the highlight of the evening was Santa Claus, who came all the way from the North Pole to start the countdown and flip the big red switch to light the Marquette Township Christmas tree.

After the tree was lit, families joined Santa as he walked to the Mall for pictures. The line to sit on Santa’s lap was long, but everyone was smiling and having a great time!
Jerry from Michigan Sales & Equipment was there with a John Deere tractor and trailer giving free hayrides around the mall parking lot.
Overall, the event was a huge success.
We’d like to thank the Super One Foods for providing the cookies and apple juice, Michigan Sales & Equipment for providing free hayrides, the Marquette Redmen Chorale, the Marquette Township Fire Department for giving Santa a ride, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department for catching the Grinch, The Westwood Mall, Applebee’s, Mares-Z-Doats, all of the actors, the Marquette Township Community Events Committee for organizing the event, and Great Lakes Radio for the stage and the sound system. We’d also like to thank everyone for bundling up and coming out to enjoy the event, as well as all the fine people who volunteered their time behind the scenes to make the tree lighting a success.
